STEVE DORSETT’S dulcet delivery catapulted him into top spot for the third week on the trot, making him Channel 4’s overall The Singer Takes It All champion.
The all-round budding showman and drama teacher from Knaphill clinched another bumper bonus of £13,400 on Friday when he made it through the tense tie-breaking finale after belting out The Monkees’ Daydream Believer.
Steve, 35, won a massive total of £42,600 from his winning hat-trick. He said: “It’s amazing – I can’t quite believe it. It is a life-changing amount of money.”
But it was a close call on Friday’s show. He said: “I had mixed emotions when I tied with a girl called Karen at 62 seconds. But it was all good in the end.”
Last week the News & Mail reported how Steve had fast become a national star after winning twice in the new TV talent show, bagging a tidy £30,000. Now he’s the champ.
Hosted by comic presenter Alan Carr, each episode has members of the public singing their chosen songs live while viewers have control of their destiny.
It all started when Steve sent in a video of himself in action and was selected from thousands of hopefuls to appear on an episode of the live show.
He said: “I’d been jobbing around the entertainment circuit for a while but the acting work had just about dried up. I was at the point of wondering how I was going to make my next mortgage payment. That’s when I thought I might as well have a go at this. It has really changed my life. Not bad for three days’ work. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the money yet as I’m still in shock, but I will be taking my girlfriend Carla to Disney World.”
Steve’s agent is currently in discussions about his future work.
