Infrastructure a priority in new Rydens Way application

RYDENS WAY could be the scene for yet more development after an application was submitted for 11 new homes in the area.

The William Lacey Group, who are responsible for the construction of 42 properties in the Old Woking street, have lodged a bid to build on the remaining green space near the local community centre and Woking College.

The firm originally won a £9 million contract from the council for ‘phase one’ of the project in 2009, but were met with resistance from residents who felt the development imposed on their quiet surroundings.

Construction eventually began in 2012 on the eco-friendly one and two-bedroom flats, and two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Chief Executive Chris Lacey told the News & Mail he is confident locals will look to the existing development when contemplating the idea of more homes in their road.

He said: “I certainly believe they will recognise the benefits we have brought and will continue to bring to Rydens Way.”

He also explained that there has been dialogue with Woking College, a site that relies on smooth access for its hundreds of students. Liberal Democrat Councillor Will Forster argued earlier this year that ‘phase two’ of the Rydens Way Development would create parking problems and road safety issues.

Mr Lacey thinks otherwise: “This is a complicated project but infrastructure works – carried out with expertise – are central to what we are proposing.”
