A WOKING woman made a surprise leap year proposal on 29 February, braving going down on one knee to seal her engagement to her stunned boyfriend.
Harri Bungay, 28, and 30-year-old James O’Sullivan had been together for nearly two years when she decided to pop the question with the support of holiday firm First Choice.
After a nationwide hunt and a series of auditions, Harri and James were selected to take part in one of three leap year proposals hosted by the holiday brand and ITN.
The full details were kept secret from James who believed he was taking part in filming for a pilot observational documentary on relationships.
James, who owns a floor laying business with his dad, said: “When Harri mentioned that she’d put us forward for a relationship documentary I didn’t think too much of it. She’s the planner in our relationship and is always organising something fun for us to do.”
James’ dad helped set up the proposal at Gatwick airport, with James believing he was there to price up a new floor, before the wife-to-be surprised him with the all-important question and a trip to Budapest.
As a thank you for sharing their special moment, First Choice presented the pair with £1,000 worth of holiday vouchers
and will be helping them plan their honeymoon.
Speaking on the surprise proposal, Harri said: “I’m over the moon that James said yes – it was a nerve racking experience, but I’m really glad I plucked up the courage to propose.
“I’m so grateful to First Choice for bringing my dream proposal to life and can’t wait to tie the knot before we jet off on our dream honeymoon.”
Shocked James said his future wife beat him to the punch: “When Harri popped the question it completely took me by surprise. If she hadn’t proposed then I certainly would have in the near future, but she beat me to it!”
