A WOKING councillor has raised concerns about congestion in Old Woking High Street, and has called on utility companies to give greater consideration to residents when carrying out repair work.
Councillor John Lawrence, who has represented Old Woking since May’s local election, has been in touch with SGN and Surrey County Council officials to ensure that any disruption is as minimal as possible.
However, he concedes that long-term changes are needed to improve the local transport infrastructure and prevent further disruption.
“The recent successful resurfacing of the High Street was carried out with relatively minimal disruption and I expect the same for any future work,” he added.
“I call on the utility companies to give greater consideration to residents and businesses who will be impacted by partial or total road closures.”
He told the News & Mail: “I am currently focusing my representations on some of the immediate congestion issues, but going forward there need to be improvements made in Old Woking, with better provision of cycle lanes as well as better public transport links.”
