WOKING Borough Council last night united with other local authorities and took a big step into the 21st century by agreeing to broadcast some of their meetings online.
The webcast scheme, which will cost just over £14,300 a year, will allow access to details of meetings of the Executive via the council website for six months after their upload.
Councillor Saj Hussain, who seconded the move after it was recommended by corporate strategy manager David Johnson, said: “It is excellent news.
“We want the public to be aware of what we are doing for them.”
The new scheme will not affect confidential aspects of the meetings, but each webcast will be linked to the documents considered during council discussions.
Entire meetings will be filmed on DVDs which will be stored at the civic offices.
Cllr Hussain added: “It will also keep us on our toes.
“I hope it won’t be long before we webcast all meetings.”
