Cougars gear up for season with win

Goldsworth Park U12s 2
Woking Cougars Blues U12s 4

THIS friendly pre-season match was played in great spirit with both teams keen to get back on track for start of the new season.

Cougars kicked-off brightly, passing the ball around well and after 10 minutes Kit Randall’s cross was parried by the hosts’ keeper into the path of Christian Darnton, who slotted home.

Goldsworth Park battled away but new signing Jacob Ralls drove a well-hit shot to make it 2-0 on 20 minutes. Sam Belgrave cleared his lines well at right-back on his Cougars debut and Joel Street kept the hosts’ defence busy with numerous flicks and runs.

Stand-in keeper Josh Johnson had little to do for most of the match, but he caught and kicked well throughout.

Ralls got his second goal from the edge of the box on 40 minutes with a well struck low drive, but as Cougars relaxed the plucky hosts had other ideas and hit back with a couple of quick goals.

Cougars were on the back foot until Alex Griffin connected well with Solomon Lamey to set up midfielder Eddie Adams. Goldsworth had the chance to reduce the arrears again with a late spot-kick, but the well-struck penalty was impressively saved by Johnson in the Cougars goal.
