MUSICAL Gordon’s School students delivered a masterclass to a very royal audience at Westminster Abbey as part of the Observance for Commonwealth Day 2014.
And applauding the efforts of the West End teenagers after the most prestigious event the school band had ever been involved with was none other than The Queen.
After Her Majesty’s Commonwealth Day message pipers, drummers and dancers struck up from behind the high alter: the grand Abbey creating a beautiful acoustic for the band, and in they came, proudly, one after the other.
The band lined up in formation on the chancel steps to play while the dancers waited to perform in front of them, which they did with elegance and style.
Gordon’s Development Assistant, Lottie Andrews, said: “Bandmaster, Cecil McCready, colleagues and of course the students themselves worked tirelessly in rehearsals and on the day to ensure such a high standard of performance was achieved.
“It was a truly fantastic event and the whole school including staff, parents and friends of Gordon’s are bursting with pride at a day that all performers and attendees will remember for many more years to come.”
