‘Brazen’ daylight robbery

A MAN was mugged in broad daylight on Thursday while walking along the Basingstoke canal towpath in the Sheerwater area.

Detectives in Woking are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened some time between 9.10am and 9.30am last Thursday (July 30) when the 26-year-old victim was walking from West Byfleet towards Sheerwater in the vicinity of Woodham Lock.

The pedestrian, who is from Hampshire, was approached by two men on bikes who demanded his bag.

He tried to keep hold of his belongings but when he resisted one of the suspects punched him in the ribs. A tussle ensued and the victim fell over.

The offenders made off with a rucksack containing an Apple laptop, some cash and clothing.

The suspects are described as two Asian men, of slim build and with dark hair. The first, who tried to grab the bag, is described as approximately 5ft 11in tall with short heavily gelled hair. He was wearing a red hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms, and riding a white mountain bike.

The second suspect is described as about 5ft 8in with slightly longer gelled up hair. He was wearing a white hooded top with a white Union Flag on its front, blue jeans and a pair of white running trainers.

Detective Constable Nick Ring said: “This was a brazen offence in broad daylight along what can be a busy footpath with cyclists and walkers. I am appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident to contact Surrey Police with details and help officers bring these offenders to justice.
