PEOPLE in West Byfleet will be asked to decide whether the village’s dilapidated play area should be refurbished on its present site or replaced in a new location.
The decision to consult villagers was made by Woking Borough Council’s executive committee last week, after local councillors questioned why an upgrade had not been completed as expected.
Parents have been campaigning for at least three years to get the play equipment refurbished, raising £55,000 towards the cost, and it was planned for completion by the summer.
However, the project has become entangled with proposals by the Marston’s brewery conglomerate to build a pub-restaurant in West Byfleet Recreation Ground.
