Building A Brighter Future

WOKING FC has secured the backing of a major new sponsor for the remainder of the 2016/17 season, writes Andy Fitzsimons.

Following several months of discussion, Jewson Builders Merchants finally put their cards on the table to sponsor the back of Woking’s shirts.

They have also cemented themselves as the main sponsor for the Kingfield Road stand – now Jewson stand, previously sponsored by Woking Shopping up until the end of the 2014/15 season.

The new undisclosed seven-and-a-half-month deal, which has the option to extend for a further two years, has come just at the right time for The Cards.

And with a reported playing budget just shy of the cost of a new Lamborghini Aventador sports car, the club needed to balance its books quickly to help preserve its National League status.

Having had a long association in sponsoring grass roots football, which more recently includes Hereford FC and the Herefordshire Sunday Football League, the builders’ merchant is now keen broaden its awareness in Surrey. And Woking’s coffers are all the better for it.

In response to the new deal, Elliot Machin, commercial manager for Woking FC, said: “Jewson have a very good local and national presence, so it’s great to have them onboard.

“When I met with Jewson in the summer, the conversation was not just about the here and now, but how potentially they can grow with the club in the future.

“I’m not able to disclose the finite details of the commercial deal, but what I can say is that they’re [Jewson] very much about relationship building and working with their key partners to bring about a mutually beneficial working arrangement,” he added.

With over 600 branches across the UK – including one on Arthurs Bridge Road in Horsell – Jewson’s initial sponsorship is an indication that positive change is in the pipeline.

And while results on the pitch still need to improve, It’s evident that Woking still have the pulling power to attract some big brand-name sponsors to The Laithwaite Community Stadium during a topsy turvy financial period.
