FORMER Woking Mayor Bill Greenwood and his wife June celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday next week. The couple married 60 years ago, after meeting when they were teenagers, and have lived at Old Woking for more than 50 years.
Bill was a 17-year-old apprentice at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire and June the 15-year-old daughter of an airman when they met. She was playing netball for her school at the time. They married on 15 March 1958 at St Michael and all Angels Church in Halton, when June was voted as bride of the year by her local newspaper. They returned to the church on their 50th anniversary to renew their wedding vows.
